| Description | - Provide high-level research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including state-of-the-art online database services, Internet websites, library and government sources and other external repositories of public information. Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus. Evaluate research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the information profession. - Compose documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences. Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to University standards of discretion and confidentiality. Extract and communicate key information which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies. Prospect knowledge, including ratings, interests and linkages acquired through research is preserved and maintained in a complex database system that is accessible to campus wide fundraising staff and used to develop future cultivation strategies. - Proactively identify new sources of funding (pre-prospects) by keeping abreast of news publications and other alerts to uncover timely information about alumni/constituents, higher education, philanthropy, and business trends. - Train appropriate staff, including student workers, in relation to research tools/resources and Prospect Research procedures. Possess an understanding of the needs of front-line fundraisers and managers and have knowledge of technical capabilities and limitations of the Raiser's Edge database system. - Assume prospect management duties as needed, including participation in stewarding data throughout the donor database conversions. Work with DIS staff and Director to address and participate in database clean-up projects related to research, as well as related database modules when appropriate. - Other functions: Update constituent records on Raiser's Edge when necessary and forward vital information to the Gifts & Records department. Along with other staff, maintain DonorScape and MAGIC electronic screening databases as well as any other screening product that might be chosen. - Maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth for the field by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). - Participate in professional development activities. - Perform other responsibilities as required. | Qualifications | REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of training and experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree and 2 years or more years direct prospect research experience. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong analytical abilities and competence in synthesizing and compiling large amounts of biographical and financial information from diverse sources (including IRS filings by foundations and corporations, and stock holdings details) into through, accurate and well-organized profiles and research reports. - Comprehensive knowledge and use of computer equipment and software applications, as well as databases and resources relating to prospect giving campaigns. - Experience in university advancement/development operations. - Should have excellent organizational skills and be able to manage several projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. - This position requires ability to provide exemplary | |
