Local Chinese Organization in Atlanta Hosts International Conference on Environment and Energy

The Association of Chinese Professionals (ACP), a local non-profit organization in Atlanta, will host the 2010 Sino-US Environmental Protection and Energy Summit & Expo on April 24-25 in the Speakers Auditorium on the Campus of Georgia State University (Student Center Building, 44 Courtland Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30303). ACP’s mission is to promote scientific, technological and cultural exchanges between the United States and China.

Anyone who is interested in exploring promising technologies and products in renewable energy and environmental protection, in sharing ideas on institutional approaches to energy and environmental issues, in expanding the market for new technologies and products, and in developing cooperative projects and business ventures between the United States and China should attend this conference.

The conference will bring together from the United States and China, leaders in the fields of technology, policy, industry and finance to discuss solutions for the world’s most pressing energy and environmental challenges. This two-day event will feature workshops, panel discussions, project case studies, networking, and a professional tour. Attendees from both countries will have many opportunities to exchange ideas with each other, become updated with the newest technologies and institutional approaches, and conclude with agreements to fulfill the primary goal of promoting collaboration between the two countries in solving mutual energy and environmental problems.

A wide range of topics will be covered and discussed during the conference, and will include

1.   Renewable energy

2.   Water resource management

3.   Solid waste management

4.   Air quality control

5.   Sustainable development

6.   Strategic plan and policy on environmental protection and energy

A showcase tour to the University of Georgia is planned, where conference participants will have an opportunity to visit a green building, a storm water management and rainwater reuse system, a bio-fuel demonstration project, a solid waste bio-conversion center, and a wetland system for water quality management.

Several high level delegations and more than 20 people from China will attend the conference, including a delegation from Hubei province led by Mr. Li Bin, Chief of the provincial Environmental Protection Agency, one from China Science and Technology Exchange Center at Ministry of Science and Technology, and one from Suzhou National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone. There will also be aseveral delegations of entrepreneurs from Guangdong and Fujian provinces, onetwo of the most vibrant regions in China.  Most Chinese delegates will attend with a goal of learning about the U.S. experience in environmental protection as well as looking for advanced technologies and products in the field of environmental protection and alternative energies.

Many from the U.S. will also attend the conference, including Dr. Scott Angle, the dean of College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of UGA, Josephine K. Tan, chair of the Governor’s Asian-American Commission for a New Georgia, Phang C. Tai, director of the GSU’s Environmental Research Center.

Two prominent scholars and leaders in the field Drs. John C. Crittenden and Steve McCutcheon will be keynote speakers for the event.

Dr. John C. Crittenden is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a world-renowned authority on sustainability and urban development. He was selected as one of the 100 Eminent Chemical Engineers of Modern Times by AIChE. He is currently professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and director of the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems at Georgia Tech.

Dr. Steven C. McCutcheon is a member of the Faculty of Engineering, at UGA. He is well known for his pioneering work in ecological engineering and water resources studies. He is one of the first licensed environmental engineers in the U.S. He was the fourth president of the American Ecological Engineering Society and a founding Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineering. He carried out his work through out the world including Italy and China.

Several organizations have joined with ACP in the preparation for the conference. They are Federation of Associations of Chinese Professionals in Southern USA, Georgia State University’s Environmental Research Center, Sino-US Cooperation Center for Environmental and Economic Development, Georgia State Department of Economic Development, and Shanghai International Finance Research Center.

A registration fee of $70 is required which covers a lunch and a formal dinner; or you can register separately for the conference/lunch for $20 and dinner for $50.
